School Activities

Students, faculty and parents, celebrate a 25-year tradition at Julian Curtiss School, with a parade, keynote addresses, and unrivaled school spirit. The U.N. Day event observes the anniversary of the U.N. charter's enactment in 1945.

Ringing In is a ceremony that takes place at the beginning of each school year. It is a way to celebrate the milestone of Kindergarten students entering elementary school. Ringing Out is a ceremony that takes place at the end of each school year. It is a way to celebrate the milestone of Fifth grade students graduating from elementary school. Students from across K-5, staff, and parents are invited to attend.

A partnership of the United Way and the Greenwich Public Schools, Reading Champions is focused on building students’ fluency skills.

Many authors have visited with the students of JCS, in person and via Skype. This year alone, thanks to generous funding by our PTA, students were able to work with and learn from the following authors:

Rob Buyea, author of Because of Mr. Terupt Series.

Angela Cervantes, author of Gaby, Lost and Found.

Jon Rocco, author of Blackout and Blizzard.

Jennifer Tully, author of Halloween Moon.

& author Ted Scheu, the Poetry Guy has visited Julian Curtiss School "in residence" to work with every student on their writing over the course of a three day period.

The Ambassadors Club is a group of teacher-nominated students who represent JCS at various events. Members of the Ambassadors Club help new JC students acclimatize to their new school setting. They help direct guests on Grandparent's Day. If you see a smiling face greeting you in the hallway each morning, it is probably a JC Ambassador...but it's a very smiley place.

At JCS, students in Kindergarten through fifth grade have the opportunity to learn to explore Coding, writing in a language the computer understands, such as Java Script. We want our students to be innovators and creators, not just end users.

The Service Club works as a team to function as the student outreach arm of our school community. Student participants spend time at The Muse, the old-folks home here in Greenwich, write letters to Servicemen and women, raise money to aid world relief efforts, and encourage our school community to make a difference in the world around us.

Curriculum Nights take place periodically throughout the school year. Each night has a different theme such as Math, Literacy, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math). Families come to JC School to work together on teacher created centers. Dinner is provided.

The Halloween Parade takes place each year. Students dress in costumes and march around the school showing off their creativity. Parents are invited to watch, cheer, and sing along to spooky music.

Fall 2019 Jogging Club Information

Movie Nights happen periodically at Julian Curtiss School. Families gather together at this PTA sponsored event to cozy up and watch films together.

Family Fun Day is a school wide community event, typically held on a weekend in the fall to kick off the beginning of the school year. It is a way for the JC Families to come together for a day of outdoor fun. Teachers donate prizes and there is a silent auction held by the PTA.
